Delivery And Collection

Bakerite arranges collection from our Westmead base and plans deliveries for customers across KwaZulu-Natal and further afield. Whether you need steel oven floor tiles, bread pans or custom trays, we help you choose the best way to move the order safely and on time.

How orders leave our Westmead base

Most orders are packed from our Westmead, Pinetown base after the final check. We look at size, quantity, weight and how the items will be handled once they reach your bakery, store or hotel kitchen. Smaller sets can go out by local courier, while larger loads are planned on a vehicle that can take the weight without bending trays or scuffing coating.

For plant bakeries, timing matters because ovens, proofing and shift changes all run to a schedule. We try to line up dispatch with your receiving hours, and we will tell you if an order is ready for same day collection or if it needs a little more time for packing.

Collection from Westmead and nearby industrial areas

Customers often collect directly from our premises in Westmead, especially when they are based in Pinetown, New Germany or around Durban. Collection works well for urgent top-ups, spare lids, repair items and smaller tray runs. It also helps if you want to inspect the load before it leaves.

  • Bring your order number or the name used on the quote
  • Send the driver with a contact name and phone number
  • Check that the vehicle has space for the full size of the pans or tiles
  • Use straps or blankets if the load is travelling with other equipment

If someone else is collecting on your behalf, let us know beforehand. That avoids delays at the gate and makes handover quicker.

National delivery planning for plant bakeries

We supply plant bakeries nationally, so delivery plans depend on where the order is going and how soon it is needed. A load going to Johannesburg, Bloemfontein or the Eastern Cape may need a different schedule to one heading to a hotel group in Durban or the Upper Highway. For larger consignments, we plan around vehicle space and road time, not just collection speed.

We also take load-shedding into account when packing and dispatching. If your receiving point has limited power, we can help you plan for off-loading and storage so the goods are not left outside longer than needed. Coastal humidity can also affect uncovered steel, so orders should be stored dry on arrival.

What to check before your driver arrives

A little preparation saves a lot of trouble. Before collection or delivery, check where the load will be received, who signs for it, and whether there is enough room for handling. Some sites need prior access booking, especially larger bakeries, malls, hotel kitchens and municipal premises.

  • Confirm the delivery address and loading bay details
  • Make sure someone is available to receive and sign
  • Keep walkways clear for trays, pans and floor tiles
  • Have a dry storage area ready if the order is not going straight into use
  • Tell us about any height limits, boom gates or security rules

If the site has strict delivery times, please mention that early. It helps us plan around traffic, gate control and the day’s route.

Packing for steel trays, pans and floor tiles

Industrial bakeware needs to be packed so it stays flat and clean in transit. Bread pans, custom trays and floor tiles are usually stacked and separated to prevent rubbing. If an order includes recoated items, we treat those with extra care because fresh coating can mark if it is packed too tightly.

For longer routes, we aim to secure the load so it does not slide when the driver brakes or turns. That matters on KwaZulu-Natal roads, especially when the vehicle has to move between industrial areas and city traffic. A careful pack also makes off-loading easier for your team.

When collection is the better option

Collection can be the best choice when you need the items quickly, want to avoid waiting for a scheduled line haul, or are sending a vehicle that already serves your plant. It is also useful for smaller repair work such as pan straightening, rim repairs, weld repairs or spare lids. You can collect, fit and return the item without losing a full production day.

If you are unsure whether to collect or arrange delivery, send us the quantity, the item size and your location. We will advise on the practical option. In some cases collection from Westmead saves time and in others a planned delivery makes more sense for the full route.

Questions we get asked

Can I collect my order from Westmead, Pinetown?

Yes. Collection from our Westmead base is available for many orders, especially smaller runs, urgent items and repair work. Please let us know who is collecting and when they plan to arrive.

Do you deliver outside KwaZulu-Natal?

Yes. We plan national delivery for plant bakeries, retailers and hotels. The method depends on the order size, destination and how urgently you need it.

How do you protect items during transport?

We pack trays, pans and steel floor tiles so they stay flat, dry and separated where needed. Larger loads are secured to reduce movement, and recoated items are handled with extra care.
